Delicious irony if it weren’t so tragic.
In Nova Scotia, the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the provincial health authority has censored notices for this week’s FreeSpeechInMedicine conference.
The provincial medical association, “Doctors Nova Scotia” which bills itself as an advocacy organization for public health, lists nine events in the province this month covering breast cancer, medical imaging, suicide-focused assessment. But nothing about the Free Speech in Medicine conference.
As important as these other areas of medicine are, there’s no question that free speech in medicine, as in all aspects of a free and civil society, is the foundation for good medicine and sound policy-making of every kind. No other current issue, no matter how critical, can evolve with integrity if our fundamental right to free speech is quashed. This should form the basis of many of the presentations, discussions, and possible actions emanating from the conference this week-end.
The Free Speech in Medicine conference has been organized by Drs Chris Milburn and Julie Curwin who say it’s very disappointing that word of the conference is not getting out. They’re still talking to people every day who have heard nothing about it.
Both doctors have a history of medical activism and advocacy in Nova Scotia, and have been subjected to censorship and exclusion as a result of their position on mandates, masking, and lockdowns.
This week’s conference, Oct 28-30, 2022, features an impressive list of speakers including keynote, Dr Jay Bhattacharya who is a co-author of the Great Barrington Declaration. Others presenting include Dr Shawn Whatley, Dr Francis Christian, Dr Martha Fulford, Dr York Hsaing, Dr Matt Straus, Sara Choujounian from Candian Frontline Nurses, lawyer Bruce Pardy, and podcaster and former MSM journalist Trish Wood.
Dr Milburn and Dr Curwin have a substack called Pairodocs featuring interviews with some of the speakers scheduled for the conference. Check it out to give you a taste of the discussions to come if you can’t make it. And though there is no live-stream of the conference, the sessions will be recorded and distributed after the event.
